    Design Philosophy
Architecutre is an extension of ourselves. It is one of our oldest and most fundamental crafts that is directly related to the human condition. As an external series of layers, architecture provides shelter from harsh weather and a space to gather.

In addition to physical protections, our buildings hold emotional meaning and provide opportunities for rest and recovery. It is important that these spaces be conceived and constructed with care.

Josh focuses on the experience of place and the how it can be crafted to meet the needs and wants of the user.  To him, the difference between “good“ and “bad” architecture is the degree to which it addresses both the known and unknown needs and wants of the client.

    4-Stages of a Project

    Discovery & Project Kick-Off
An initial 30-minute discovery call serves to establish project objectives, identify pain points, and form a genuine connection.

The subsequent project kick-off meeting covers the scope of work and the technical details of the project.

Design IterationFollowing the project kick-off meeting, design work begins immediately.

Follow-up meetings provide an opportunity for the designer and client to review progress and iterate as required.

    Permit Application
Permits are submitted before construction as required by the relevant parts of the Ontario Building Code and the City of Toronto construction guidelines.

This is where Sandbox Studio passes on documentation to the client’s chosen general contractor. Preferred contractors are available upon request.

    Construction & Inspection
Only after all permits have been approved by the relevant municipality does construction commence. It is recommended that clients schedule inspection services throughout construction to avoid delays.

    Working Together
Every project begins with a connection. A relationship, between designer and client. Forging a strong rapport is fundamental to any design project.

We enjoy working with people. People with big ideas, open minds, and a good sense of humor. Design is a reciprocal act, it requires give and take, ambition and humility, quick-thinking and deliberate consideration. It demands trust.

As humans, we typically trust people that we like.

    Let’s work together, together.
